Should I buy a new DSLR digital camera online?

The decision to buy a DSLR camera is a major one because DSLRs are so much more expensive and the equipment is filled with features that can easily confuse you. Keep in mind, however, that if you want to take photography seriously, then it is important that you have your own DSLR. It gives you greater flexibility in your shots because you will be able to manipulate the settings of a DSLR. Here are the other features of a DSLR which you can’t find in a point and shoot:

1. Interchangeable lenses. Do you wish to try macro or sports photography? Now you don’t have to worry about buying a separate camera to do this. By changing lenses, you can now shoot different subjects,

2. Manual controls are important if you want to explore your skills but if you don’t wish to be bothered by settings, then you can use auto controls which are already built in with many digital SLRs being sold today.

Why Not Let Someone Else Take the Pictures for Once

February 19th, 2010

With cameras so cheap and available, everyone has become an amateur photographer. Then with digital photography so accessible, the average person can not only take the pictures, but print them or distribute them online for little cost. Yet, here are some reasons why being the chief photographer isn’t always best at all.

First, if you are the family photographer, you know the bondage it can be to always be looking for the ‘perfect shot’. If you’re going to be good at it, you must think like a photographer. Yet, when you get done, you have a set of good pictures but no memories of what happened? Recently we got a call to watch a TV station to see our granddaughter in a parade. I spent the time trying to get the camera to focus on the TV and missed seeing her. I wish I had just enjoyed the moment and waited until they sent the pictures.

Electronics in cameras have definitely made them simple to use. However, keeping all its potential in your mind can be a different story. What do all the icons on top mean? Do you know how to turn on or off the auto focus or flash? What does P, TV, Av, or M stand for? Of course you can look them up in the manual but unless you keep using the features, you will forget and then they are as if not present on the camera.

As the photographer, you are often required to get into obtuse contortions or obnoxious places to get just the right shot. Further, you can lose a lot of friends by sticking the camera in their face every time they smile. You may well be required to prod and cajole them into smiling just once more. Why not let someone else be the bad guy for a change?

So you do it anyway and get a camera full of shots. Now guess who will get requests for CDs full of pictures, as if you have plenty of free time to dedicate to this. Or you might spend your time sending the pictures to others via email or posting them on a webpage.

But it’s more than just the time involved. Though digital photography need never be printed, some friends simply don’t have access to this media. They will probably want you to print the pictures and this means lots of expensive ink and paper. Are you without a printer? If not, be sure to get one that has multiple ink cartridges so that they can be replaced individually when all the relatives keep asking for more prints.

If you want to look like a tourist, by all means hang a camera around your neck and draw it to your eye regularly. And don’t be surprised if people decide your pictures are more important to you than they are.

Think of this: if you have a minor plumbing problem, you fix it yourself. But if a major problem arises, you call a plumber to fix it. The same can be said of photography. Of course you don’t want to throw away your camera. But also relax and enjoy life and, at least sometimes, let others make the photo recordings.

When you want your photos done right, choosing the best photographer for your needs is worth the investment. If you follow the principles above, you will likely be glad you had it done professionally. Del Haven Studio is the location of an experienced Virginia Beach Maternity Photographer who is very skilled – as you can see from her website portfolio.

Dan Feildman Discusses Digital Camera Printers

June 21st, 2009

Did you like this video? Curious about Dominating Digital Photography? Well now you can by Discovering this Digital Photography Blog…what are you waiting for?

Having saved hundreds or even thousands of photos in your PC memory, you may start to wonder how you are going to print some out, rather then just using up you hard disc memory. There is nothing more thrilling than seeing your digital mastery as a high quality print. If you need to print off your photo collection there are several ways of going about it, so let's take a look at some of the possibilities.

Digital camera printers and computer printers are both an option to create excellent looking digital prints. Which ever printer you do decide to purchase, the fun comes when having to understand it's software and the necessary commands to produce high quality prints. This may be easier for regular users, but complete newbies will need a helping hand to produce some real digital mastery.

Buying a digital camera printer, maybe the first step that you need to take, so take a look at both options to find which most suits your digital needs. Be certain to look for digital camera printer reviews on Google and Photography forums with regards to the printer of your choice. If that is enough to make a decision, then have a look for the model on the internet in sites like Amazon and eBay and compare prices and delivery charges. Paypal is the safest way to buy products on the Internet and will always defend your consumer rights, so make a note of the guarantee period, as not to miss out on a refund should the printer break down.

Ink jet printers are available with either 4 or 6 color inks, but news has it that an even better 8 ink jet color printer will soon be out. If you want an optimum quality image, then you need to use as many ink colors as possible. My recommendation to produce high quality digital prints would be by combining a high weight bond paper together with a 6 ink color digital printer.

What choices do you have? There are 2 types of printers; Ink jet and thermal, so let's have a look at the differences so you will find it easier to make the right choice. The Ink jet printers may not be quite so high in quality results, but are more frequently used. The Thermal printing style produces higher quality results, and you will see a difference in the cost effectiveness compared to the Ink jet printers, as the paper and the ink cartridges are a lot cheaper.

If you are really on key with all of the digital camera printer's functions and features, then you will find it so easy to handle. Make sure that everything is working properly and that the results are satisfactory. Check the battery charger works and that the working parts are kept free of dust.

4 Great Ideas on How to Make Your Wedding Photography Exceptional

May 21st, 2009

4 great Tips for Making Great Digital Wedding Photography even Greater

Brides and grooms everywhere are beginning to realize the expertise of professional photographers to get the best digital wedding photography images for their special occasion. And why shouldn’t they? They would abosultely want to obtain only the best photography taken so that their photographic memories would be sealed for as long as they both live.

More and more people are now gravitating to the using of their own digital cameras to capture pictures of their weddings. One of the reasons for this is that the quality is better compared to the traditional and old fashioned film cameras. Another interesting fact is that the photographs can be stored not only in their hard-bound leather covered photo albums but also on website albums online.

Today, people are using their computers more than ever before for communication. With computers, they can easily upload and transfer their wedding pictures and share them with family members and close friends all over the world. You do not have to rely on slow emails just to send your pictures. Today photos are being uploaded manually so other people can view the images on their own home computers or online

This is one of the many advantages of digital photography. If photos are taken properly, you are pretty much guaranteed that you and you special person of interest will never regret having used digital photography for your wedding pictures.

Below are some of the tips to get the best digital photography for your wedding.

1. Choosing the right backgrounds.

Photos can really look awesome once they are shot with the perfect background. You can use the florals and decorations in the church and in the reception areas as a back draft for your photos. Be sure to fix some spread out festive decorations so that they will appear mostly with perfection on photographs.

Always remind the photographer to check if the view is good before taking any pictures. It does not mean that you have to stand on the same corner or place. The best photographer is able to make even the most simple of background look great on photo if it is taken in the right place and angle.

2.  Look out for any types of glass or mirrors.

Glasses can cause harsh reflections in pictures. Should it be an eye-glass, outside window or champagne glasses.  One way or another, they will cause a reflection or brightness to reflect back on the camera it is included in the photographs.

To avoid this, the tilt and position of the camera can be manipulated so that it will not directly bounce off the glass. The photo can be taken sideways or downwards but never on eye level.

3. The perfection of timing.

People being photographed should not always be looking straight into the camera. And none of the people have to be smiling at the lens too.

One way to reach your goals is to photograph the moment in a photojouranlsitic manner You will see that catching persons on film when they are in their candid state is much better than having them wearing a fixed expression. Photographing those special moments in a quiet and non-distracting approach can produce great results.
4. Review each photo.

To utilize the maximimum the memory that your digital camera can handle, it is sometimes a good idea to review every photo shot taken. Over shooting the same subject at a wedding should be avoided, be more original.

It’s best to take a variety of images for a better selection.

The greatest wedding photography is made even greater now with digital cameras. If there’s one thing you should remember it’s your photos on your weddings day.

Digital Photography as a Hobby

May 6th, 2009

If you’re thinking about turning to photography as a hobby, you should think about learning more so that you’ll enjoy it more. Photography is not something that you can just pick up overnight. Such a hobby requires that you learn something before you can really get going.

For starters, there are techniques that you need to become acquainted with in order to take great pictures. Then there is also the need to know about the different types of photographic equipment. That is just as important.

If you want to further enjoy photography as a hobby, the best way to get started is by picking digital photography. Why? Because it’s currently the easiest way to achieving good results. With digital photography, you are no longer limited by the rolls of film that need to be carried.

Digital photography provides a way for hobbyists to continue with their hobby until their camera’s memory is full. Today’s camera memory cards can save hundreds of large-sized photos (compared to a roll of film’s 36 exposures).

Digital photography also offers hobbyists a way to cost-effectively learn about photography in general. The majority of digital cameras are fairly easy to use. They provide easy ways for beginner photographers to learn the ropes bit by bit.

In digital photography, mistakes are not as costly since most digital cameras allow you to take a considerable amount of shots without having to use expensive film. And with digital cameras, it is easier to get prints from your photos. All you will need is a printer and a PC in order to get prints. It may even be easier for you to send copies online anywhere on the world.

If you want to learn more about photography, there are several digital photography courses now available that would really help. From these courses, you would learn more about digital photography techniques, both as a hobby and possibly as a profession. One of the things that you will pick up is how to properly shoot pictures by using the digital camera.

You can also learn how best to use your digital camera given certain lighting conditions and weather. This will greatly help improve the shots that you will be getting, now that you have a pretty solid idea on how each shot can be set under ideal conditions.

Digital photography can be a rewarding hobby as not only will you figure out how to take amazing photographs but you’ll also discover that the world looks more vivid through a true photographic eye.

Photography Needn’t Be An Expensive Hobby

April 30th, 2009

Photography is a fun and cheap hobby to have. All you need is a cheap digital camera and imagination. In the past, before the advent of digital cameras, it was much more expensive, time comsuming, and tried the patience whilst you waited for your results from the processing lab. Now you can instantly see the image you have captured. If it is not what you wanted, you can take another one or load it onto your computer and modify it as wanted.

If, like many of us, you need a reason to get out into the fresh air and walk, A perfect hobby for you could be photography.Nature Photography can be very rewarding. Once you start to look through your viewfinder, you will discover that the whole world looks different with exciting possibilities. Objects will appear to take on different shapes and forms in different lights.

There are a number of different types of photography and they can be split into two different  catagories – those taken for payment (this will include wedding photography etc.) and those for personal use. Occasionaly income can be earned from an image originally taken just for fun meaning that the categories become blurred .

Two main areas can be created for the personal use photographs, memories – photographs of your child’s first step, bike ride etc; photographs of places you go on holiday; Family parties, anniversaries etc and ‘art’ photographs – Images that impressed you, often of common articles taken in striking lighting or unusual settings. An important part is often played by lighting in these pictures.

You will never go anywhere without your camera once you get hooked on your photography. Once your camera becomes part of your regularly carried accessories, you will be able to capture anything you see that excites your imagination.

Be it a baby held in loving arms or an elderly couple sitting on a park bench, everytime you take a photograph, it is important to carefully compose the image to create the feeling you are trying to convey. Unless you are trying to show movement,a whole subhect in itself, the image should be well balanced, The outsides are as important as the center. whilst modern Digital cameras can greatly improve standard protographs, they can also create difficulties if you are trying to be creative. The snag to these is, of course that should you want to take a photograph of a waterfall, the drops of water get frozen in place and to some extent the feeling of the movement of the gushing water gets lost.

The more you analyse the images you capture, the more satisfying it will become and the better you will get at it. Whether you are eight or eighty, simply by looking at the world through your viewfinder with imagination you can take good photographs. Age is unimportant.

Choosing The Right Photography Equipment For Your Needs

April 25th, 2009

Why did you switch to digital photography?
A. I never have to limit the number of images I can photograph at your wedding. I am not wasting film, so I can keep shooting until I get the exact moment I want. B. We used to be limited to the type of film in our camera, no more. Now I can give you any image you want in color, black & white or sepia. C. Digital has made all kinds of art work more available and affordable.Note that you may want to read about the the meaning of ISO for digital cameras, and why noise increases with ISO, before continuing with this answer.

Why do my flash shots have a lot of noise?
If you are shooting in auto ISO, your camera may be boosting the ISO to compensate for an underpowered flash. You can try manually forcing the ISO to a lower value, but if the underlying problem is not enough flash power, then you’ll get less noisy, but underexposed shots. You might consider getting a more powerful external flash. You can either shoot your own photos, borrow a friends digital camera, or if you live within 50 miles from Carlton, MN, we can come to your location and take digital photos for you.

Are there any disadvantages with digital photography?
In the wrong hands digital images can suffer from poor colour or density, undue digital noise, unnatural sharpening, over or under exposure and loss of detail in the highlights or shadows.

How do I deal with noise in my (high ISO) images?
There are many methods for dealing with noise in high ISO images. My favorite is Jes’s color grain reducer. I’ve even done a little tutorial on cleaning up high ISO images, which uses Jes’s photoshop action. I like Jes’s action best because it cleans up color noise without corrupting the image. There are plenty of other approaches.

How do I embed images in the discussion forums at dpreview?
Click on rules/help in one of the forum pages at dpreview and read the part about embedding images. The only tricky part is getting the appropriate URL if you are using an image hosting site like pbase, where you’ll need to read the instructions appropriate for your site. In the case of pbase, you’ll need to make a contribution to permit external linking. Don’t do something silly like using a URL for a page that displays many other things in addition to your photo. Obviously, this won’t work. You may have a white balance problem. Make sure that you aren’t using indoor film, or an indoor white balance setting. In the case of a Sony DSC-F707, you may have a defective camera that suffers from a problem called Blue Flash Syndrome, or BFS. For more, read here. A related, but different, problem low called EV BFS (LEVBFS) also afflicted some Sony cameras. The only affects flash white balance in shutter priority mode, and resulted in shots that were too blue.I don’t know.

Where can I find ratings of different lenses?
The most widely cited place appears to be photodo, which is sadly out of date. photozone also has lens reviews. A note about lens reviews: There is often significant variation between samples of lenses. Reviews typically consider just a single sample, so you may not get the full picture from reading just a single review.Cost: Every film shot involves film and development costs even if you don’t print.
