There are a lot of different digital cameras on the market right now, which makes choosing the best one a lot more difficult. Something else which is making it really hard to pick a new camera is that you can no longer just compare each model side by side and look at which one has the most megapixels or the biggest memory card etc because nearly every camera has more than enough megapixels now and you can buy bigger memory cards anytime you want. Instead you now have to compare a big list of complicated features to try and decipher which ones offers the best value for money.
It doesn’t have to be so complicated though, forget all those fancy features and just make sure your new camera has the 4 below and you should be fine:
Metal case: Plastic cameras seem so old fashioned now, almost all the reasonably priced cameras now have some sort of bare metal or anodized metal case, and that makes them a lot more able to stand up to scratches and knocks. I also think they look much better with a nice metal case too, and you can get pretty much any color you want nowadays from bright blue through to a very stylish bright pink digital camera if you want one.
Anti-motion blur: This has to be the most important feature on a camera today. Some people make sure they have their hands completely steady as they take a picture, but most of us are too busy having fun or trying to capture the moment to worry about that, which could lead to blurry pics without this. This feature helps to stabilize the picture even when your hand is moving around. It isn’t perfect, it won’t compensate if you are jumping around with the camera in your hand, but it really helps you to void taking blurred photos.
Video: The last thing you want when you are on holiday is to have to lug around lots of different gadgets all the time, so who wants to take around a camera and a video recorder? Instead a lot of the digital cameras nowadays can actually record some pretty decent video. Sure for the conneiseuur then it probably won’t be good enough because there is only a very small microphone on the camera, but I was surprised by how good the video was for such a small device.
Intelligent Automatic Mode: If you enjoy messing around with your camera to get the best shots then you are happy to fiddle with all the settings each time you want to take a photo. For the rest of us though, that is far too much hassle every time we want to take a quick picture, and we would probably use the wrong settings anyway. Having an auto mode on your camera means you can leave all that to the camera and it will analyse the scene for you, decide which mode is best, which lighting settings are best, whether to use the flash or not and much more, all in a matter of seconds, so you can get the best picture possible every time. With the camera taking control of all the settings then it leaves you free to just have fun and take pictures!
